Sondra Burnett Injured In Horse-Back Riding Accident

CABOT, Arkansas - Sondra Burnett, one of Southern Gospel's most beloved female soloists and comediennes, was recently injured in a horse-back riding accident.

Sondra Burnett explained, "To many of you this may come as a great surprise, but I like to ride horses with my daughter, and we have three horses right now. The other day I was riding, and my mare decided she wanted to stand up on her back legs. I do remember thinking that these kinds of things never end well! Long story short, I pulled my 1,100 lb. horse down on top of me. After we fell, she rolled off on my left leg."

Sondra continued, "I know what you're thinking! What hospital are you in? Well I’m here to tell you that my God is a great God! Let me tell you what He did for me. Not only did I not break a single bone, but I was able to travel that same night to be able to minister in two concerts the following day! I had minimal pain and was able to testify to the power of our God!”

However, due to the accident, Sondra has a bulging disc and requires a couple weeks of physical therapy. Burnett will not be able to appear at the National Quartet Convention like originally planned.

"I thank the Lord that the incident wasn't worse than it turned out to be," said Sondra. "I appreciate everyone's prayers for me, as well as my poor husband. I'm going be milking this for all it's worth!"

Sondra Burnett to Host Benefit Concert for Hurricane Victims

CABOT, Arkansas ? Sondra Burnett, one of Southern Gospel's most beloved female soloists, will be hosting a benefit concert for victims of the recent hurricanes
that devastated the Gulf coast last month.

The benefit concert will take place at First Baptist Church in Cabot, Arkansas on October 9, 2005 and will begin at 6:00 p.m. The concert will feature Burnett performing her most beloved songs as well as her popular comedy routines. The benefit will also feature special performances from Burnett's daughters Allie and Marlee and her nephew Adam Hambrick.

"Ever since the hurricanes hit, my heart has just been broken by the stories of people that have lost everything. I can't imagine what that would be like and it makes me so thankful for everything that I have,? mentioned Sondra. ?I'm reminded of an old song that my family used to sing when I was growing up. It's called ?Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me'. The words are: ?There's a roof up above me, I've a good place to sleep, There's food on my table, shoes on my feet. You gave me your love Lord and a fine family, Thank you Lord for your blessings on me'. Those words described our family so much. We didn't have much of anything, yet we felt we were rich because of the blessing of God. He provided food when we couldn't afford it, clothes that were made by mom's hands, and music. Lot's of great memories of all of us gathered around the old upright piano singing together. Yes, we were rich!?

Sondra continued, ?I want to share the blessings that I've been given to those who have lost everything. I want to share a night of encouragement and laughter through song! And in true Baptist form, we WILL receive a love offering that will go 100% to the relief efforts. I pray that first and foremost God will be glorified and that the folks of this community will come with a true desire to worship the Living God and that they will fatten up their wallets before they come and leave with them empty!!!! We must do our part! Philippians 4:19 says that ?my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.'?

Sondra was nominated for an American Christian Music Award earlier this year for Favorite Female Southern Gospel Artist. Her current single is currently eating up the airwaves across the country and has already found a place at home in the Top 10 on both the SouthernGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart and American Christian Music Journal's Top 50 Southern Gospel chart.
